 Astrology Lessons In The News

There is recent news regarding the loss of 190,000 AK-47s in Iraq.  This is not the first report of weapons disappearing in Iraq while US forces are trying to train the country's police and military security forces.  The knowledge of this disappearance occurs days after the exact square (90 degrees apart in the heavens) of Mars (guns, weapons) in Taurus (possessions, resources) and Neptune (deception, dissolve, disappearance) in Aquarius (detachment, shocks, rebel).

Another sad news item from Colorado, a pit bull attacked a doberman at a dog park.  The dogs were pulled apart, but after the second attack by the pit bull, the owners could not get the two out of control canines away from each other.  The owner of the doberman took a knife from his pocket and stabbed the pit bull.  The pit bull later died from the injuries.  This power struggle took place July 30, the day of the Full Moon in Aquarius (unexpected, shock).

Experience tells us that more births take place on a full moon, emergency rooms are busy, and passions lead to unstable behavior which translates to more arrests.  Patients in mental hospitals are known to be agitated around the full moon, too.

 Stop and Go

Today Mars and Saturn were exactly 90 degrees apart in the heavens. That is called a 'square aspect' (360 degrees divided by 90 is 4 or a square). It's a struggle.

Mars in Taurus want to step on the gas so to speak. Saturn in Leo wants to put on the brakes. Ironically, the earth sign of Taurus is usually cautious, and Leo fire is often the leader of the parade.

That would create some feelings of knowing what you want to do but a strong apprehension may exist. Saturn may call out to be prudent and cautious, checking almost obsessively to be sure it's OK to go ahead.

This might manifest as an awkward demeanor between male and female. Mars needs to guard against inappropriate expressions of force or cruelty.

This would influence each of us depending upon which houses of our own chart are triggered by these two planets. The houses, or areas of life, involved would be those with Aries and Capricorn on the cusp, with Leo and Taurus on the cusps, and the houses containing those two planets at birth and currently. It might seem hopelessly complicated. Those with some astrological familiarity will recognize that the signs Aries and Capricorn as well as Taurus and Leo are square, also. These emanations call for quite a bit of adjustment.

The energy of the full moon discharging at the same time may add some channel for release by way of creativity. Painting, writing, and computer graphics would supply a good avenue for this creativity.

 Leo, Fixed Fire

I really love the sign of Leo. Of my 2 parents and 4 brothers and sisters, all have either the Sun, Moon, or Ascendant in Leo. It was like growing up in vaudeville or comedy central. It was fun (associated with or 'ruled by' Leo). It was very warm and loving (the Sun ruling the sign of Leo.) And the family closeness is lasting (Leo is a 'fixed' sign).

Each astrological sign is 'ruled' by a particular planet (or star as in the case of the sun). The things associated with that planet and the sign are very much alike, or at times, the same. Fixed is a quality or 'mode' of the sign's energy or focus. Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are good at shooting out of the starting gate, so to speak. Think of a cork popping from champagne bottle and flying to...who knows where? Quick, fast action. Fixed is good at maintaining and managing things. Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are the fixed signs. I imagine a rocket taking off and the fire and energy going straight down to the ground. It is a focus of a huge amount of power. Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces are the Mutable signs. Mutable is adaptable and can change or alter things easily. Think of the power of the cork popping into the air and the fire from the rocket taking off but that energy is moving in a triangle or figure 8 pattern. It can do a couple of things at once.

Leo is the sign of nobility, royalty, and leadership. Leo is creative, playful, child-like or enjoys children (not necessarily childish), and is fairly good with speculation to increase resources. Gold, royal blue or royal purple are good Leo colors. Leo needs to remember that other people are around and the world doesn't always revolve around them as the planets do around our galaxy's Solar Star. Leo is a very strong sign, very charismatic. That takes us back to the fixed energy - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius are always said to be "charismatic" or "magnetic". Once the gaze is fixed upon one of them, it can be hard to break away.

I was born with the Moon in Leo. It's an odd placement because I also have a private side. When I wanted that attention, it was easy to get. But when I don't want it, and I try to be very inconspicuous, I wish I could be invisible. I feel offended by attention invading my private little world. Very strange. I'm also a Sagittarian Sun and a Gemini Ascendant and I do seem to have 2 sides or an ability to see both ways. With Sun and Mercury, Ascendant ruler, in the 7th house (Libra's house) and 2 planets in the sign of Libra, it makes for a great deal of 'both sides'edness. Remember, Libra is the peacemaker and seeks balance. It sees both sides, too.

So, Leos of the world go forth and let that light shine. Others need it and they really like that warmth. Can't you tell?

 Leo - Pure Gold

What every girl needs for the swimsuit season, a real gold suit and cover-up! I spotted this little number in Luxist.com. Note: Designer says it's not supposed to get wet! I can picture a Leo in this, can't you? Jennifer Lopez? Madonna? Any Streamers?

The comment section below the photo was pretty strange, too. Someone commented on what skin color might look good with the gold suit and from there it digressed into accusations of racism.

The Sun will soon enter the sign of Leo. Leo the lion: the royal carriage of breeding and nobility! Things 'ruled' (associated with) Leo are sunflowers, gold, orange blossoms and oranges, thick mane-like hair, the scents of heliotrope, cinnamon, and frankincense, ornate, showy decor, drama, creation, children, play, Helios, Apollo, and all Sun gods.

 Superstition

Superstition is somewhat like prejudice, unfounded bias toward or against beliefs, persons, numbers, colors, animals, and dead things.

Superstition is also said to be irrational beliefs which have grown out of ignorance or fear.

It sounds like, under those terms, one could include prayer in the category of a superstition. (I am not making a judgment here!)

Two armies fight each day for a week. Army A has a better record. Army B believes it is because Army A has the Sacred God of Poodle Guides to direct it's warriors at 4:00 each afternoon. Army A always attacks from it's city's direction which is to the west of City B. At 4:00 in the afternoon, for the past week, the sun has been in a position to reflect off the lake, essentially blinding the army to the east. The trees create shadows, too, so it is very hard to view exactly where people are hiding in the west, when viewed from the east. Army A's commander knows the sun and shadows give him the advantage at that time of day and from that direction.

To recognize a superstition, one must have knowledge of the believer's frame of mind and level of knowledge or intelligence. If a 'superstition' is based on a condition, as the above war, which is not thoroughly understood by all, some might believe it is a superstition and others will know it is not.

Any thoughts? Please share them!
