 August 1st Solar Eclipse

NASA lets us know:

"July 29, 2008: On Friday, August 1st, millions of people in Greenland, Siberia, Mongolia and China—especially China—are going to witness a total eclipse of the sun. The Moon's cool shadow will sweep across the landscape, silencing wildlife with sudden darkness, filling the sky with the sun's ghostly corona, transforming ordinary folks into life-long eclipse chasers. Mainstream media gives this sort of thing" massive coverage.

Those who know a bit about astrology may be looking for visibility of the eclipse in another place:  an astrological chart.  Namely, George W. Bush's natal chart.  The eclipse will take place at 9 degrees of Leo.  That is the location of the planet Mercury in Bush's chart.  It is a strong place in his chart because it is right next to his Ascendant of 7 degrees of Leo and the planet Pluto at 10 degrees of Leo!  An eclipse taking place on a planet in one's natal chart serve to highlight other things at the same degree.

We may see a blending of the Mercury-Pluto combination through communications, coercion, thought, destruction, travel (nearby), death, siblings, other's resources, and other matters relating to the planets involved.  The Ascendant puts it right out there where Bush interacts with his world, how he sees it, and how the world sees him.

In past times, astrologers who accurately predicted events were sometimes accused of being responsible for the event!  I won't be making any predictions!  But I have heard that he is still coming up with his "signing statements" which he believes will give him more power than what a president was intended to have.  It will be interesting to see how this turns out but, we may be unaware of anything noteworthy because Pluto is notoriously secretive.  It may be something that remains secret until another planet moves over that same degree in the future and triggers the revelation of these secrets.

The eclipse will not trigger anything dramatic in my chart but it will trigger a "grunion run"!  I will probably go watch silvery fish flip-flopping around on a beach in the middle of the night.  Doesn't that sound fun?

Stay loose.

Two Zodiacs - Double Your Fun

This morning I turned on the TV to the History Channel. They were showing a fantastic astronomy program about the constellations, stars, and so on. There were 5 or 6 reknowned scientists/astronomers making comments throughout the program, one of whom was Michio Kaku, author of Hyperspace. His writing on String Theory is amazing!

At one point, one of the guests mentioned that someone could say that they are "a Scorpio", only to be told later that they are actually of the sign before Scorpio, which would be Libra. Then you could say that you're not a Scorpio today, which would confuse anyone discussing astrology with just a smattering of sun-sign knowledge which is what we all pick up unless we are captured by the subject and actually study it.

At another point a guest mentioned that there are actually 13 (!!) signs or constellations! And, what's more, they're not all of equal length - one being around 44 degrees and another only around 8 degrees.

Boy, won't that knowledge blow your friends who talk about astrology out of the water? No.

Please check out this site for a better explanation of the sidereal and the tropical zodiacs. You can see the 2 above diagrams at a much larger size and understand them easier and more completely.

Pondering the skies and heavens, since we're so tiny and insignificant in the greater scheme of things, it's hard to comprehend (yet true) that the universe, stars, planets, and constellations are in a constant state of change or growth. Think of an explosion or the pebble in the pond, the size or rings keep expanding. The perimeter of a fire, if not controlled, keeps expanding outward.

Because the Earth is not a perfect sphere, but slightly bulges at the equator, a line extending from the north or south pole would not return to the exact same spot. It takes about 26,000 years for that to happen. Then you'd be a Scorpio again!

It's not that simple though. One can consider the zodiac and the heavens from the point of view of time or space. I can't do a job of explaining this in any way as well as some great websites, though. So I encourage you to explore these links, to learn these differences from the astrologer's view.
