Today the Sun, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, Chiron, the North Node, and the Part of Fortune are in Aquarius. I hope I got everything...That is a fantastic charge of Aquarian energy to be uplifting the planet!Aquarius is an air sign although the image appears to be of a man pouring water from an urn balanced on his shoulder. Those are actually 'emanations' or vibratory energies pouring forth into the Universe. Air signs are the communicators and information movers of the zodiac. Saturn was considered the ruling planet of Aquarius since antiquity. When Uranus was 'discovered, co-rulership was assigned to that planet. Uranus and Aquarius signify detachment, humanitarian effort, and freedom. Surprises, unexpected happenings, sudden flashes of insight, and rebellion fall under Uranian/Aquarian territory. Let's see what primary results look like in these Aquarian times.

The Sun moves into Aquarius for it's yearly 30 day visit on Sunday, January 20. The actual date the Sun goes into and exits a certain sign varies by a day or 2 each year. That's why some of the information about what one's sun sign is seems contradictory or faulty. The only way to tell, absolutely positively, is to have a natal (birth) chart made up for the date, time, and place of birth.
The Moon and Mars will be conjunct tomorrow, Saturday, January 19, at 3:35 PM, PST. In fact, the Moon will move in front of Mars, eclipsing the planet from view. Of course, this won't be visible everywhere, but the two will be very close in the night sky. Mars is the steady golden-yellow planet right next to Luna. Mars is the planet of the warrior, ruling the sign Aries and the 1st house of a chart, as well as the particular house in an individual's chart which has the sign Aries on the cusp and that house containing Mars. (Yes, there is a lot to take in and synthesize when interpreting (or reading) a chart. It also co-rules the sign of Scorpio, which it has since antiquity until the discovery of Pluto in the 1930s.
I thought that Mars going retrograde in Cancer, backing into Gemini, being eclipsed by the Moon, and going direct again on January 30 would relate to stories about the occupation and wars going on globally. Mars in Cancer would put a focus on security around the homefront. Backing into Gemini might signify a move from feelings of security (or insecurity) to verbal threats and words of war.
As I think back on this, my first thought is the intelligence report that came out stating that Iran did not have nuclear weapons. That bit of news started the rain on this administration's parade about going to war with Iran. It is no secret that Bush and Cheney have wanted to instigate regime change in Iran. Dating back to the '50s and the Shah, US manipulations in Iran have not gone too well, as I see it. We've heard of Iran getting involved in the fighting in Iraq, nuclear weapons in Iran, and Iran's threats against Israel similar to what was heard about Iraq before March 2003 when Bush and Rumsfeld decided to invade and 'surgically' remove Saddam Hussein and take over the country for a while.
Recently 3 US ships in the Straits of Hormuz were reportedly threatened by small boats and comparisons to the bombing of the Cole surfaced in the media machine. Yesterday, several stories (BBC, AsiaTimes, DAWN) on internet news sources from overseas stated that the cause for all the flap was actually the 'Filippino Monkey'. This is apparently someone who has been in that area for years now, often interjecting verbal threats over the radio waves against ships in those waters. Had our Navy actually fired upon the small boats from Iran, who knows where it may have gone from there?
I've read recent stories of Al Qaeda moving to a different section of Iraq, leaving behind IEDs, and commencing a decapitation campaign. At least 10 heads or bodies without one have reportedly been found in and around their new area of Diyala, Iraq. Suicide bombers are now active in the area. We are all concentrating (or at least American media is) on the primary elections, and have not heard much about the 9 US troops killed last week as of yesterday.
Much conflict is going on in Pakistan, which witnessed the murder of Benazir Bhutto since Mars' retrograde, as well as Sri Lanka.
Mars turns direct and retraces it's backwards steps from January 30 until mid-March. More information about these stories may come to light in the 'straightening out' process which follows all retrogrades. Much is beginning to shift as Sun enters Aquarius this Sunday, Venus enters Capricorn on 1/24, Pluto enters Capricorn on 1/26, Mercury turns retrograde in Aquarius on 1/28, and, lastly, Mars going direct on the 30th. Not so coincidentally, the Moon will be going through the sign of Scorpio on the 29th and 30th of January as Mars changes direction. So Mars will be doing a lot to stay in the forefront of the universal flow for the next few weeks.
To know how these movements can manifest in your own actions, feelings, or thoughts, you would look to see where Mars is in your chart. The house containing Mars at birth as well as the house he is travelling through at the moment will be highlighted. For those curious about their own chart, you can do your own free at astro.com, or you could leave me your date, time, and place of birth in the comment section. I'm always happy to help. I do a lot of astrological research, too, so I welcome new charts!
Take care. And please remember that the awareness that astrology can provide is meant not to give excuses or rationalize. With the awareness, we can be watchful for undesirable thoughts and speech coming from ourselves, thereby creating more positive live expressions. This leads to soul growth. Mastering our charts, planets, and stars is the highest step on the spiritual staircase to our Home.
Did you know Our Creator is thought to have provided Adam and Seth with astrology and astronomy knowledge? Would a loving Father leave his children with no clues, roadmaps, or lessons to guide them? Something to think about.

Two days ago, Mercury (appeared to be) moving over the 9th degree of the sign Aquarius. On January 28, it will be in the 25th degree of that sign. At that point, Mercury will appear to back up. (Imagine a raceway with a circular track. You are in the race with a few others. From your perspective, certain cars will appear to go forward or backward, depending on the speed and placement of other cars, including yourself.) On February 18, Mercury will once again be near the 9th degree of Aquarius but it will then appear to go forward again. It will arrive at the 25th degree of Aquarius again on March 9, then it will move forward over territory it hasn't visited yet this year.

Each planet corresponds with certain qualities and objects. Mercury is associated, or 'rules', communication, schedules, messages, and local travel. While Mercury is retrograde, appearing to back up, messages can be missed, appointments are forgotten, things used for communication or travel can break down.

You may begin to see evidence of this around this time. After Feb. 18, things will begin to go smoothly again. By March 9, the kinks should be out and problems repaired.

This will be a good time to go over things - like going over or editing your blog posts. It is often a time of repair, review, rearrange, and repeat.
Awareness of these planetary cycles can help. If you keep a sense of humor and stay flexible, things may be easier for you if things do go awry.

Tuesday January 1, 2008

I feel like we've flown along for the past month in a flurry of holidays, birthdays, and parties. The times have moved fast and things have happened under the radar of which we can only barely comprehend the motives and roots. As Americans, we've been focussing on Iraq and Iran, yet Afghanistan and Pakistan may have really demanded more consideration. There are many hot spots in the world these days.
The death of Benazir Bhutto was sad for me but not completely unexpected. This bright, popular woman has/had an amazing birth chart - Sun in Gemini, Moon in Libra, Capricorn Ascendant - which had many markers for strength and leadership ability. I always felt hopeful for a primarily Muslim country to love it's feminine prime minister on such a great scale. Hope has taken a giant step back, in place and in time.
On a very general level, there were many indicators of change and challenges during 2007. I'm referring to major planet aspects, which occur when one outer planet is either conjunct (0 degrees), opposite (180 degrees), square (90 degrees), trine (120 degrees), or sextile (60 degrees) to another one. We started last year with Jupiter square Uranus, with Saturn opposite Neptune, Jupiter trine Saturn, Saturn trine Pluto, Jupiter sextile Neptune, and Jupiter conjunct Pluto to follow throughout 2007, moving back and forth, direct and retrograde in their orbits, stretching their influence all year long.
For 2008, we will have Jupiter trine Saturn, Jupiter sextile Uranus, and Saturn opposing Uranus, back and forth as always, but without the Neptunian fog and Plutonian edge to create by destruction. There is opportunity to move forward in positive, well-planned steps, yet any change on a personal or world level only gives way after some fear and unwillingness to let go.
If these planets aspect any of your natal planets, progressed planets, or relationship planets (which they most likely do), the opportunities and challenges are put directly into your hands, too. A little awareness and planning help us 'go with the flow' rather than 'against the tide'.
While thinking about Benazir Bhutto, I once again thought of the over-simplistic attitude directed toward astrologers in the question of, "Well, if you could tell that this tendency was there, why couldn't you have done something to stop it?" It seems a reasonable thing to wonder about, at first. Let's say you were one of those having a precognitive dream of someone's death. Who would you call? What kind of reaction would you expect? If you used astrology, too, you'd face fear, ridicule, and jokes from about half the public. Someone might even suspect you were involved somehow if you had prior knowledge of it. (Yes, I've been watching the Twilight Zone marathon, and it's pretty obvious in my own thinking right now, isn't it?)
I have been going over the coming year's celestial plans and I must say that the last week in January and early November carry a chance for some unsettling events. Eclipses will occur February 7 and 21, August 1 and 16. Eclipses are often involved in noteworthy events and times. The Democratic Convention will be held the week of August 24 and the GOP Convention will be held the first week in September. Times of New and Full Moons are eventful, too.
Please note that I have used some of my own intuitive 'guidance' as well as astrological principles to arrive at the above conclusions. There is much more to take into consideration and one can get as detailed as time permits to arrive at more particular information. I don't even use the thoughts of 'good' or 'bad' when I work with astrology. It goes way beyond good or bad. Something may appear positive at first, then end up being a very destructive force in one's life. Or one can go through a difficult, stressful period which will ultimately contribute such a great deal of wisdom and experience, that it will be seen as very helpful and positive in the future. I try very hard to avoid those words as well as the word luck or lucky. It's just not that simple. At least it isn't in my own life.
Consider this: I've spent some time looking at charts and the times and causes of one's death. The 8th house represents the manifestation of endings or death in one's world and the planet Pluto is associated with death, among other things. The planet Jupiter, a very beneficial planet, is often in a strong place in a chart dealing with death. What might this suggest? Perhaps death, or the end of our physical existence on Earth in this lifetime, is an accomplishment. We've 'graduated' from our lessons and it's time for spiritual reflection. Upon physical death, we are free from suffering from physical sickness or injuries bringing constant disabling pain. Jupiter is associated with spirituality - we return to Spirit, temporarily or eternally. Can people loosen up their fear and compulsion for control long enough to consider these possibilities?
If anyone would like a wallet calendar card dealing with Mercury's retrograde times this year and how to best use them to your advantage, email or contact me. I had some made up through American Federation of Astrologers in Tempe, Arizona. The cards can be very helpful. If you're looking for some serious stimulation and challenges, you can use it to help you with that, too. ;-)
Blessings of Light and Love in 2008!
