 Blue Moon - May 2007

Blue Moon May 2007 magnify

This Thursday the 31st we will see the second full moon in a month! It will be exact at 6:04 P.M., Pacific Daylight Time. The phrase 'once in a blue moon' means very rarely, or infrequently.

It takes the moon less than one month (by our current calendar system) to go from one new moon to the next. So every once in a while, there are 2 new or full moons in one of our calendar months. Here it comes.

Taking place in the sign of Sagittarius will bring spirit and a willingness to take a chance. Jupiter is the planet 'ruling' Sagittarius. Jupiter's qualities are very well expressed through the sign of Sagittarius. Interest in legal concepts, world religions, and the world of higher learning can take center stage. Long-distance travel is a Sagittarian pastime, whether by plane, train, book, or television. An affinity with mother Nature and the wisdom of Sophia keep good company with the influence of Jupiter and Sagittarius, too. Just be aware that small details can be overlooked and taking a chance doesn't need to mean being fool-hardy. Be thorough and use some caution where necessary!

I love to see the full moon reflecting in the Pacific, off the coast. Watching the moon rise behind the mountains and to see the moonlight shimmer off the water as it glides slowly through the sky is an indescribably beautiful sight. To watch it while sitting in the warm sand on the beach is very comfortable to me, too.

The grunion will be running, too. Grunion are small fish in the smelt family that "run" or flop around on the beach during the full moon and high tides along southern California and Baja Mexico. They lay and fertilize eggs by twisting their bodies downward in the wet sand. Then they go back to the sea. The eggs hatch during the next high tide cycle in about 10 days. This only happens in the spring and summer months. It's an amazing sight. Learn more about grunion here!

Anna Kingsford - Clothed With The Sun - 1889

Anna Kingsford

"Anna Kingsford was an extraordinary 19th Century woman. She was one of the first women in Britain to become a medical doctor, edited a feminist newspaper, and served as president of the Theosophical Society. She knew Helena P. Blatavsky, Eliphas Levi, and many other primary figures in Occult and Esoteric circles of the time. She was a principled vegetarian and anti-vivisectionist, and opposed foxhunting. She was considered one of the inspirations for the Golden Dawn, a ritual magic secret society which was one of the sources of modern neo-paganism, although she did not live to join it. In particular, the equality of the sexes in the Golden Dawn is acknowledged as her contribution."

From 'Clothed With The Sun' -

"CONCERNING INSPIRATION AND PROPHESYING 1

I HEARD last night in my sleep a voice speaking to me, and saying--

1. You ask the method and nature of Inspiration, and the means whereby God revealeth the Truth.

2. Know that there is no enlightenment from without: the secret of things is revealed from within.

3. From without cometh no Divine Revelation: but the Spirit within beareth witness.

4. Think not I tell you that which you know not: for except you know it, it cannot be given to you.

5. To him that hath it is given, and he hath the more abundantly.

6. None is a prophet save he who knoweth: the instructor of the people is a man of many lives.

7. Inborn knowledge and the perception of things, these are the sources of revelation: the soul of the man instructeth him, having already learned by experience.

8. Intuition is inborn experience; that which the soul knoweth of old and of former years.

9. And Illumination is the Light of Wisdom, whereby a man perceiveth heavenly secrets.

10. Which Light is the Spirit of God within the man, showing unto him the things of God.

11. Do not think that I tell you anything you know not; all cometh from within: the Spirit that informeth is the Spirit of God in the prophet.

12. What, then, you ask, is the Medium; and how are to be regarded the utterances of one speaking in trance?

13. God speaketh through no man in the way you suppose; for the Spirit of the Prophet beholdeth God with open eyes. If he fall into a trance, his eyes are open, and his interior man knoweth what is spoken by him.

14. But when a man speaketh that which he knoweth not, he is obsessed: an impure spirit, or one that is bound, hath entered into him.

15. There are many such, but their words are as the words of men who know not: these are not prophets nor inspired.

16. God obsesseth no man; God is revealed: and he to whom God is revealed speaketh that which he knoweth.

17. Christ Jesus understandeth God: he knoweth that of which he beareth witness.

18. But they who, being mediums, utter in trance things of which they have no knowledge, and of which their own spirit is uninformed: these are obsessed with a spirit of divination, a strange spirit, not their own.

19. Of such beware, for they speak many lies, and are deceivers, working often for gain or for pleasure sake: and they are a grief and a snare to the faithful.

20. Inspiration may indeed be mediumship, but it is conscious; and the knowledge of the prophet instructeth him.

21. Even though he speak in an ecstasy, he uttereth nothing that he knoweth not.

22. Thou who art a prophet 3 hast had many lives: yea, thou hast taught many nations, and hast stood before kings.

23. And God hath instructed thee in the years that are past; and in the former times of the earth.

24. By prayer, by fasting, by meditation, by painful seeking, hast thou attained that thou knowest.

25. There is no knowledge but by labour; there is no intuition but by experience.

26. I have seen thee on the hills of the East: I have followed thy steps in the wilderness: I have seen thee adore at sunrise: I have marked thy night watches in the caves of the mountains.

27. Thou hast attained with patience, O prophet! God hath revealed the truth to thee from within.

PART 2

A Prophecy of the Kingdom of the Soul, mystically called the Day of the Woman

1. And now I show you a mystery and a new thing, which is part of the mystery of the fourth day of creation.

2. The word which shall come to save the world, shall be uttered by a woman.

3. A woman shall conceive, and shall bring forth the tidings of salvation.

4. For the reign of Adam is at its last hour; and God shall crown all things by the creation of Eve.

5. Hitherto the man hath been alone, and hath had dominion over the earth.

6. But when the woman shall be created, God shall give unto her the kingdom; and she shall be first in rule and highest in dignity.

7. Yea, the last shall be first; and the elder shall serve the younger.

8. So that women shall no more lament for their womanhood: but men shall rather say, "O that we had been born women!"

9. For the strong shall be put down from their seat; and the meek shall be exalted to their place.

10. The days of the covenant of manifestation are passing away: the gospel of interpretation cometh.

11. There shall nothing new be told; but that which is ancient shall be interpreted.

12. So that man the manifestor shall resign his office; and woman the interpreter shall give light to the world.

13. Hers is the fourth office: she revealeth that which the Lord hath manifested.

14. Hers is the light of the heavens, and the brightest of the planets of the holy seven.

15. She is the fourth dimension; the eyes which enlighten; the power which draweth inward to God.

16. And her kingdom cometh; the day of the exaltation of woman.

17. And her reign shall be greater than the reign of the man; for Adam shall be put down from his place; and she shall have dominion for ever.

18. And she who is alone shall bring forth more children to God than she who hath an husband.

19. There shall no more be a reproach against women: but against men shall be the reproach.

20. For the woman is the crown of man, and the final manifestation of humanity.

21. She is the nearest to the throne of God, when she shall be revealed.

22. But the creation of woman is not yet complete: but it shall be complete in the time which is at hand.

23. All things are thine, O Mother of God: all things are thine, O Thou who risest from the sea; and Thou shalt have dominion over all the worlds."

Ancient Wisdom, Astrology, and The Bible

You may know that I have recently been searching for "my truth" as far as astrology and the Bible. More accurately, this search could be called ancient astrology and Christianity. I was curious about references in the Bible to astrology and astronomy in a favorable, non-judgmental tone, and the accusation that Satan encouraged these subjects to further his vision of the ruin of the world created by The Divine Source.

My "inner voice" tells me, over and over again, that the planets were created by The Source of Creation or God, and those who are inclined to investigate will find horoscopes and astrology to be guides, instruction, or to-do-lists for this lifetime. The confusion would arise when one "worships" the creation rather than The Creator. If the purpose in one's use of astrology is to help direct someone to recognize their gifts and challenges so they can live a life of service as well as satisfaction, I have found no reason to do otherwise.

I would question one's use of astrology to exercise control over others or to make another feel helpless. Years ago, when I began to study Rosicrucian teachings, they asked that students not use the wisdom for profit, and I still keep that in the back of my mind. That knowledge is an ancient gift of God and I am content to study and research. We all have to eat and pay rent so I have no problem with earning a living with astrology, as long as it's genuine and faithful.

My conclusion is this: study of planets and the heavens has existed as long as humans could see them. The knowledge was always available and at times meant survival or no survival. Each ancient civilization, from Egypt 5,000 years BCE to Babylonia, to Greece, and the Americas, has had a knowledge of the subject, indicated by archaeological evidence.

The confusion arises with the beginning of Christianity. As the "Christian Fathers" sought to stamp out any belief other than their own, philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, astrology, literature, and medicine were frowned upon and either controlled by the church or destroyed the knowledge and those possessing it. And then we hear of 'The Dark Ages'.

I must also mention a very old matter regarding the churches and the patriarchy. Said straight out, 'in the beginning' there was awe and respect for a woman's ability to create life. Over the eons jealousy and hatred of that power rear their ugly heads and we have stories such as that of Hypatia. I file this under the category of 'what you resist, persists'. Monks and holy men fought their attraction and lust for femininity, accusing the objects of their secret obsessions of being witches, agents of Satan, or worse. I always found it strange that so many women mentioned in Christian writings were called prostitutes. To survive, Christiany had to discredit women who could, almost instinctually, understand spirituality, healing, and life.

Much wisdom passed from India, through Egypt, Ethiopia, the Middle East, Greece, and on to Rome in stories and texts. The Essenes were custodians of a large amount of that wisdom and upon the development of Christianity, decades after the death of Jesus, Essenes saw the writing on the wall and converted. Some surviving texts telling of that knowledge, have been discovered such as the Nag Hammadi in Egypt and the Dead Sea Scrolls, both coming to the world's attention around the 1940s. Huge populations have been stamped out along with books and texts in the name of one organized religion or the other.

I don't mean to offend anyone. I simply come to this early conclusion after delving into the subject somewhat. It is such a fascinating topic, though, that I'll be sharing certain things I find. Life is broken down to the material and the spiritual in many ways. As our being possesses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual 'bodies', certain people are more aware of a certain influence (or vibration, emanation, or energy) than another.

I wish you a happy Sunday and a safe Memorial Day weekend.

Horoscopes from the Dead Sea Scrolls

I have been reading about the Dead Sea Scrolls found in a cave at Qumran. The scrolls were discovered by a bedouin herding his sheep in 1947. Because of the scrolls, we know of the Essene sect of Judaism.

This text refers to astrology and some names mentioned in the Bible.

HOROSCOPES (4Q186, 4Q534, 4Q561)

Three documents from Cave 4, one in Hebrew and two in Aramaic, all dating probably to the end of the first century BC, contain fragments of ‘horoscopes’ relating the features and destiny of a person with the configuration of the stars at the time of his birth. The Hebrew text published by J. M. Allegro (4Q186) is written in a childish cipher. The text runs from left to right instead of the normal right to left and uses, in addition to the current square Hebrew alphabet, letters borrowed from the archaic Hebrew (or Phoenician) and Greek scripts. The spiritual qualities of three individuals described in the work are reflected in their share of Light and Darkness. The first man is very wicked: eight parts of Darkness to a single part of Light. The second man is very good: six parts of Light against three parts of Darkness. The last is almost perfect: eight parts of Light and only one of Darkness. As far as physical characteristics are concerned, shortness, fatness, and irregular features are associated with wickedness, their opposites reflect virtue.

In the astrological terminology of the document, the second Column doubtless means the ‘second House’and a birthday ‘in the foot of the Bull’ should probably be interpreted as the presence of the sun in the lower part of the constellation Taurus.

The first Aramaic horoscope (4Q534) is according to J. Starcky that of the final Prince of the Congregation or Royal Messiah. According to Vermes, the text alludes to the miraculous birth of Noah and it has therefore been placed together with the other Noah literature. The other Aramaic horoscope (4Q561) is too short to allow an identification but it is unlikely to refer to Noah as the qualities seem to be in some middle position between good and evil.

Whether the sectaries forecast the future by means of astrology or merely used horoscope like compositions as literary devices, is impossible to decide at present, though Vermes favors the latter view. Many Jews frowned on astrology, but others, such as Hellenistic Jewish writer Eupolemus credited its invention to Abraham!
